bg/ish: Welcome to Contra Costa, Land of Outlaws, Villains and Thieves!

I really got a kick out of this story on SFGate this morning about Contra Costa, CA District Attorney Robert Kochly's reaction to the city Board of Supervisors cutting $1.9 million from his office's budget. He's said that it will do "less with less", and has announced that his office will no longer prosecute some misdemeanor offenses such as burglary, shoplifting and reckless driving. Some drug offenses will also go unpunished.

Of course some city officials feel that this is an "open invitation" to criminals to come rape, pillage and plunder Contra Costa. Kochly and the Board are having a "showdown" today that will hopefully involve a lot of cold stares, finger pointing, and throat clearing.

I for one will be keeping a close eye on these developments, and looking to shoplift a PlayStation 3 from a store in Contra Costa with lax door security, and easy access to a freeway on-ramp.
